According to reports, on June 9, 2024, at around 8:45 AM, a fire broke out on the "Kaung Pyay Hlaing" motorboat, which was 30 feet long and 21 feet wide, near Gway Kone village in Ngaputaw Township, Pathein District, Ayeyarwady Region. The boat, driven by U Chit Min Thu, was traveling from Pathein to Hainggyikyun. The fire started when the boat stopped for repairs due to an engine malfunction, and the battery ignited. The fire then spread to a fuel barrel nearby, causing further flames. Firefighters from Pathein District Fire Station responded with a small motorboat and portable fire extinguishers, and managed to extinguish the fire by 11:00 AM.The incident resulted in minor injuries to one of the five men on board, and the destruction of the boat’s engine compartment, a barrel of 92 octane gasoline, a barrel of diesel fuel, and basic food supplies. U Chit Min Thu, the boat’s driver, has been charged under case number (Pa) 55/2024 with violation of section 285 of the Penal Code at the Shipyard Area Police Station.
