Based on past experiences with cyclones within the country, regional and state governments in Myanmar are conducting cyclone disaster preparedness drills, disaster risk reduction programs, and awareness sessions. These initiatives are being carried out with a community-centric approach, in collaboration with the Myanmar Fire Services Department's search and rescue teams. The efforts involve local administrative bodies, military personnel, Myanmar Police Force members, disaster management committee members, healthcare teams, humanitarian organizations, and local residents.On June 7, 2024, at 1:30 PM, the Chief Minister of the Ayeyarwady Region attended and delivered a speech at a cyclone preparedness drill held at the Cyclone Shelter in Zin Shwe Lay village, Zin Shwe Lay village tract, Laputta Township, Laputta District, Ayeyarwady Region. The purpose of these drills is to ensure rapid and effective response to cyclones, floods, and other natural disasters. The drills were conducted by a 116-member regional search and rescue unit, which has been trained for prompt disaster response. The unit worked alongside military personnel, Myanmar Police Force members, Red Cross volunteers, and 50 members of partner organizations from the Myanmar Social Welfare Association, collaborating with 300 local residents.
