
On June 6, 2024, at around 12:45 AM, a fire broke out at the 38x40 feet, zinc-roofed, brick-walled, one-and-a-half-story house of U Kyaw Thu on Teza Khin U 1 Road, Ward 2, Taungoo Town, Taungoo District, Bago Region. The fire started from the Safeguard refrigerator overheating. Upon receiving the report, firefighting teams from the Taungoo District/Township Fire Station and the Maha Metta Social Assistance Association, including both government fire fighters and reserved firefighters, responded with four fire engines and four water bowsers. The fire was extinguished by 1:36 AM. The fire resulted in the destruction of the 38x40 feet, zinc-roofed, brick-walled, one-and-a-half-story house and the upper floor of a 15x20 feet, zinc-roofed, wooden-walled, bamboo-floored, two-story house. U Kyaw Thu, the owner, has been charged under section 285 of the Penal Code by the Taungoo Town, Ward 2 Police Station under case number (P)124/2024.
