On March 28, 2025, at approximately 12:51 PM, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale struck, centered about 21 kilometers northeast of the Mandalay Seismic Center and approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay City. The epicenter was located at latitude 22.09 degrees North and longitude 96.23 degrees East, at a depth of 10 kilometers. As a result, on May 6, 2025, it was reported that search and rescue personnel from the Fire Services Department were carrying out cleanup operations in the Mandalay Region, which had been affected and experienced damage and losses due to the earthquake.
