On May 5, 2025, at approximately 11:01 AM, a fire broke out at the gas shop owned by U Win Kyo, located at Plot (49), (84) Street, Patey Lane, Tammawatti Quarter, Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay Region. The shop, which was a one-story building made of corrugated iron, brick, and with a soil foundation, contained a large gas cylinder. During the process of transferring liquid gas from the large cylinder to a portable smaller gas cylinder, the pressure was overfilled, causing the gas to escape and ignite, resulting in a fire. According to the report, firefighters and auxiliary firefighters from Mandalay Region Fire Services Department, extinguished the fire with two command vehicles, ten fire engines, and five water bowsers. The fire was completely extinguished by 11:32 AM. Due to the fire, the following were destroyed: a 15x15-foot shop room made of corrugated iron, brick, and a soil foundation, one shop, the upper floor of a 20x30-foot two-story house, and four large gas cylinders were destroyed and and two men suffered serious injuries, one man had minor injuries, and one woman sustained minor injuries. All of them were transported to Mandalay General Hospital by an ambulance from the Chanmyathazi Social Welfare Association. The shop owner, U Kyaw Moe Lin, has been charged under Section 285 of the Penal Code by the Chanmyathazi Township Police Station with case number (Pa) 28/2025.
