On March 28, 2025, at approximately 12:51 PM, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale struck, centered about 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay city and approximately 21 kilometers northeast of the Mandalay Seismological Station. The epicenter was located at a latitude of 22.09 degrees North and a longitude of 96.23 degrees East, with a depth of 10 kilometers. As a result, on May 5, 2025, it was reported that search and rescue members from the Fire Services Department were conducting clearance and recovery operations in Mandalay Region, which had suffered damages and losses due to the earthquake.
