At approximately 12:51 PM on March 28, 2025, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale occurred. The epicenter was located about 21 kilometers northeast of the Mandalay Seismic Station, or approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay City, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The coordinates were latitude 22.09°N and longitude 96.23°E. As a result, on April 26, 2025, it was reported that search and rescue personnel from the Fire Services Department were carrying out clearance operations in Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory and Mandalay Region, which were affected by the damage and destruction caused by the earthquake.
