
On March 28, 2025, at approximately 12:51 PM, a very powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale struck, with its epicenter located about 21 kilometers northeast of the Mandalay Seismic Station — approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Mandalay city, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The coordinates were 22.09 degrees North latitude and 96.23 degrees East longitude. As a result, on April 24, 2025, search and rescue teams from the Fire Services Department were actively conducting clearing operations in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory and the Mandalay Region, which had suffered damage and casualties due to the earthquake.
