On 4 February 2026, at about 8:00 a.m., on Union Highway in Ward Myothitgyi, Area (5), Myitkyina, Kachin State, a fire broke out due to overheating from a refrigerator that had been left on, which was installed on a plywood partition in an upstairs room of a two-storey house (27×18 ft, corrugated iron roof, brick nogging, wooden frame, plank flooring) owned by U Zaw Lwin. According to the report, firefighters from the Kachin State Fire Services Department Headquarters, Myitkyina Township Fire Station, and Kyunpinthar Ward Auxiliary Fire Station responded with one fire engine and three water bowsers. The fire was extinguished at 8:30 a.m. Due to the fire, the upper floor of the two-storey house was destroyed. The house owner, U Zaw Lwin (50), has been charged under case No. (P) 15/2026, Section 285 of the Penal Code, by Myitkyina Township No. (2) Area Police Station.
